the spring of 1983, The
clay figures were painstakingly carved, Apparently, in 1987 someone accidentally knocked over the Christ Child statue and it was broken. Mary still holds a place of honor in the southwest corner of the Church at the Marian chapel. Joseph greets everyone as they enter the narthex and is fittingly sitting on a carpenter's bench. Members of St. Joseph's in Mantua have been participating in this outreach effort since 1998. Participants volunteer for a variety of household repairs at owner occupied homes of low-income residents of southwestern Virginia and eastern Kentucky.
