CHILDREN'S LITURGY OF THE WORD (CLOW)

PSR CLASSES (Pre-School - 8) MARKET DAY
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL LIFE TEENADULT FAITH FORMATION
ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC SCHOOL ~ A Legacy of Quality Catholic Education (1962-2010)

We have various Faith Formation programs available for adults and children alike. St. Joseph's Parish School of Religion or PSR (formerly known as CCD, Confraternity of Christian Doctrine) provides Catholic instruction for those children of our faith community who are unable to attend a Catholic school. Adults are welcome to participate in a variety of programs ranging from the liturgical ministries and RCIA to the seasonal prayer and learning experiences to representing the parish on Pastoral Council or one of the many other parish organizations.

CHILDREN'S LITURGY OF THE WORD PROGRAM (CLOW)child with Bible
Held weekly during Sunday's 8:30 and 11:15 a.m. Masses (Sept.-May) and 10:30 a.m. Mass during summer months, the Children's Liturgy of the Word Program is designed for children in Kindergarten through 2nd grade.
No registration is necessary and the program is ongoing year round.
The children will be called to the steps of the altar by the presider just after the opening prayer. They will then be led to their designated space by the Children's Liturgist to hear the readings on their level and participate in related materials and activities. They will return to their seats just before offertory time.

An organizational meeting will be held on
Wednesday, September 8, at 7:00 p.m. in the All-Purpose Room.
All current catechists and any adults who would like to volunteer
for this ministry for our young people are encouraged to attend.

If you would like the opportunity to reflect more deeply on the Sunday readings, share your faith with young children, and meet your Sunday obligation ALL at the same time, then you might consider becoming a Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) Catechist. If you are interested in becoming a CLOW catechist, please contact the Parish Office (330.274.2253).

PSR CLASSES ~ Pre-School - 8 (formerly known as CCD)
PSR class
St. Joseph's Parish School of Religion or PSR (formerly known as CCD, Confraternity of Christian Doctrine) is one dimension of Faith Formation at St. Joseph's. PSR provides Catholic instruction for those children of our faith community who are unable to attend a Catholic school. Volunteers, teachers, assistants, and guest speakers are always needed. Contact the Parish Director of Religious Education at her PSR Office (330.274.2268), Mondays-Thursdays, to offer your time and talents.

Our program for Faith Formation for pre-school, elementary and Jr. High school age students is held in the school classrooms (and other meeting rooms as needed), Thursdays, 6:00-7:30 p.m., September through May.

What does the PSR Program at St. Joseph Parish look like for 2010-2011 at this time?

We are going to continue to build upon the strong
program that we have had for the past many years.

Fr. Garvey and Beth Frank met on August 12, 2010 and it is confirmed that PSR will meet on Thursdays, 6:00-7:30 p.m., during the 2010 - 2011 school year. A PSR calendar, registration applications, and other important forms were mailed to homes on Monday, August 23, 2010. They are also be available on the parish website, on the narthex windowsill, and in the bookrack in the main hallway by Hughes Hall.

The first PSR class will be a social on Friday, September 17, 2010, 6:00-8:30 p.m.

This social will include dancing with music provided by a D.J. There will be pizza and pop ($1.00 per slice/can), board games set out on the tables, and lots of good conversation. Come and meet new people, talk with those who may have gone to another school, and share about your first couple of weeks of your school year. This social is open to all currently registered PSR students, grades K-8, and all former SJS students, who are now in grades 1-9, no matter what school you now attend. Admission: $1.00 per student, Max: $5.00 per family.
Chaperones are needed. Donations of child-friendly finger foods are requested, too. Please call Miss Frank if you are able and willing to do either/both (330-274-2268).

Are you willing to help?
In order to provide many student-centered learning experiences for our children your help is needed with these ministries:

  • Adults who will help with the learning activities using a designated theme (about every four or five weeks).
  • Social Committee who will facilitate the receptions (about four or five throughout the year).

PSR is going to be a great experience for our children.
It will take all of us to help their faith-life to grow and mature.
With Jesus, Mary and Joseph as our leaders,
this program can give all of them a strong foundation
and help them put the Catholic faith into action.

Reflections On The Eucharist
In an effort to clarify and deepen our understanding of the Eucharist, the Office of Worship of the Diocese of Youngstown has provided the following resources published by the Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions.

This Saving Cup ~ Communion Under Both Kinds

Three-Minute Liturgical Catechesis (click on links below)
These short reflections on the Mass were originally inspired by the late Pope John Paul II’s encouragement to us to engage in “that mystagogical catechesis so dear to the Fathers of the Church, by which the faithful are helped to understand the meaning of the liturgy's words and actions, to pass from its signs to the mystery which they contain, and to enter into that mystery in every aspect of their lives.”
[Apostolic Letter inaugurating the Year of the Eucharist, October 2004, Mane Nobiscum Domine (Stay with us, Lord)].
In that spirit these articles are offered to provide helpful material for brief reflections on the Eucharist. These materials are designed to take less than three minutes to read through, so they won't delay us long from other things on our schedules. These reflections are intended to give a bit of information about the Mass and a bit of inspiration that will help us live the Eucharist all week long, or in the Pope’s words above “to enter into that mystery in every aspect of their lives.”
