A crowd pleasing favorite is our famous Ox Dinners, a 3-course meal is served by our parish & community kiddos in our air conditioned Hughes Hall!! Thank you to Jen Hirsch and JoDee Romano for chairing!
St. Joseph students entering 5th grade or older serve as waiters & waitresses. To be scheduled they must turn in a sign-up form by July 7th, and attend a mandatory training on Thursday, July 18th at 6:30 p.m. in Hughes Hall. For more information, please contact Jen Hirsch at 330-221-6704 or [email protected]. Adult hosts and hostesses are also needed.
Every year we have inquiries about outside food trailers coming in to our event. Believe it or not, ALL of our food booths are run by parish volunteers, families & friends. The only exception is the cotton candy & candy apple trailer that our ride company brings in. The Knights of Columbus from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Aurora bring their Kettle Corn Booth through a special agreement.
Of course, that famous Ox Roast beef has always been a part of the Fair. Up to thirty-five hundred pounds of sirloin roasts are prepared in brick-lined pits on the parish grounds that are heated days several before the fair with a constantly burning wood fire. The beef is prepared, wrapped in cheese cloth & netting, then placed in the fiery coals, covered over, and cooked for several hours until done to perfection. (You may still see the pits smoking on the corner near the Entertainment Tent). The result is a delicious, slow-cooked Ox Roast beef sandwich, sundae with mashed potatoes, or dinner that melts in your mouth!
